Music

JD Jungle Sessions (2006) During one of my last sessions with Lightyear, on our way to becoming 3 Second Delay, I ran into a guy named JD who was interrested in recording live drums (just drums) for his final project. We talked about Drum & Bass music for a while and I came into the studio having only a couple of days to aquaint myself with modern Jungle music and a couple of hours to build a kit with 2 hi-hats, 2 snares, the basic structure of a 5-piece kit surrounded by cymbals and noisemakers for the infinate ammount of changing textures and sounds in jungle music. This session was alot of fun and I found myself and the jungle drum contraption I had built surrounded by close to a million dolars worth of studio mics and equipment. I was alone in a room with just a headphone feed from the studio proper and 15 microphones surrounding my kit. JD really catered to me and let me do what ever I wanted with the takes. Because of the environment and vibe, we all were pleased with the takes. He says he will be mixing down for the next 6 years but I walked away that night with these 4 songs.

On The Fly This is a strictly studio band formed to go into the studio with no songs prepared and between the group we have our first song written by the time the mics were in place and the console dialed in. We had so much fun with our first session that we decided to bring in a guest guitarist for each new session. Zacc Cooley- Bass Guitar Lucas- Flute, Saxaphone Aaron Bland- Drums, Percussion

Six Point Restraint This was my first serious project with direction and management. I was 17 and playing some pretty big showcases with other bands that had been doing it for years. My first real exposure to the music industry was one of my most valuable. Ryan Borze- Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Wes Durham- Bass Guitar Joey Avalos- Guitar Aaron Bland- Drums

As Six Point Restraint grew as a band and the players as musicians, we evolved into Lightyear, a formidable force as young and still budding rockers. As the players changed, so did our sound. Ryan Borze- Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Matt Vorkapich- Guitar, Vocals Ian Gillies- Guitar, Vocals Zacc Cooley- Bass Guitar Aaron Bland- Drums

In another time of transition, I decided to take on the task of recording my first album. Why not? I had some equipment and a modest home studio. After a couple of weeks of getting home from teaching and taking my dinner straight to the console, the record was done, taken to L.A. where vocals were overdubbed. (I didn't have a $3000 mic in my studio at the time) Some of the tracks made it on our next album. Some of the songs, re-recorded. The rest were more or less lost... until now.

Another turn of the tide, another change of members, and another 3 years later, Lightyear releases our second album. A testiment to our commitment to music and performance. This was our best work yet. Ryan Borze- Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Ian Gillies- Guitar, Vocals Mike Kaplan- Guitar, Vocals Josh Weldon- Bass Guitar Aaron Bland- Drums, Percussion
Faceless in the Crowd (2004) 1- Vitality 2- Make Believe 3- See 4- Wayside 5- Green And White Pill 6- Roundabout 7- Blind Horizon 8- Lady 9- Hello, Goodbye (Acoustic)
Warner Brothers Uncovered Contest Submission (2004) Lightyear became the WB6 House band for 2005 after winning a televised "American Idol" style contest searching for "Arizonas Hottest Cover Band". Ironically, we were the only band that entered the contest that was not actually a cover band. This is the live recording I made in our rehersal studio that got our feet in the door:
Babba O' Reiley (the Who) Whole Lotta Love (Led Zepplin)
3 Second Delay This was our last attempt at re-inventing ourselves and going for a record deal. We had been through so many performances, members, managers, fans, albums and good times pursuing lives as professional musicians. This would be our final "Hazaah!" I unfortunately had to leave the band to audition for another gig. Here is the beginning of a new album. Maybe someday we will finish it.
Breach Camera's Reflection Waiting on Someone State of Mind Mary New Guitar
Lumberjack Cash A good friend of mine and I recorded in a home studio on a $25 drumset. It is a wonder the cops were not called but the session was alot of fun. The song is kind of a spoof of the emo-punk stuff that has been coming out lately and yes, I did the back-up vocals (I do not sing). Live and Let Die
